ProHeart is the only FDA-approved product that prevents heartworm disease in dogs with just one injection. The active ingredient, moxidectin, is contained in slow-dissolving microspheres that are stored in your dog’s fat-storing connective tissue. The medicine is released evenly over time, keeping your dog consistently protected from heartworms. It’s important to know if your dog has heartworms before starting a new heartworm product or switching to a different one. If you are not sure when your dog last had a heartworm test, we can check your records to verify.

Heartgard Plus is a real-beef chewable tablet for dogs that provides protection against heartworms, and treat and controls roundworms and hookworms. Heartgard Plus is a monthly prescription medication that should be chewed, not swallowed whole. The tablet may be broken into pieces and fed to dogs that normally swallow treats whole. The American Heartworm Society recommends that heartworm prevention be given year round. Because this is a prescription drug, a veterinary-client-patient relationship must exist in order to purchase Heartgard. We cannot sell Heartgard over the counter without meeting these requirements.
